I literally spent hours putting together two ceiling fans. Only to discover they don’t work. The lights turn on, but the blades just twitch like a dying insect. Pretty much par for the course for the whole day.

Is there some kind of screw in the motor for shipping?

I don’t think so. The instructions didn’t mention it.

My entire house was a collection of failures before I bought it. Now it’s more like a casserole of failures.

Yeah. Working on cars? No problem. I can handle pretty much anything.
In the house? Everything turns into a disaster.
Fortunately my brother in a licensed architect and has more experience than anyone else I know in home improvement projects. But he has pretty much zero automotive knowledge.
He helps me with my house. I help him with his cars. We both win.

Something went very wrong. Maybe a wire popped out of the nut?
Ceiling fans are my most hated project. I will build, side, shingle and plumb a house from dead trees and copper ore without balking.
Put up a bloody fan? Nope.

I did a similar task. I took the front wheels off of my girlfriends car and painted them purple. I beat the ever loving shit out of this lugnut in the process.
First my 3/4 socket wouldn’t go on even though the socket size is 3/4. I pounded it on with a hammer. The next problem was predictable. It wouldn’t come out of the socket. I hit it with a hammer, and unfortunately, lacking a table vice, I just had to stick an allen key through it, hold it and hammer and hammer and hammer. Eventually it came out but this dome topped nut is now an innie lol.
I had to order a new lug and used an old one from a different car in the meantime. How fun.

At least you can work on cars. I have little knowledge there either.

You guys are crazy. Fans are easy (I guess I have done enough of them). Biggest problem is not putting whatever various cover has to go on in the right order.
I have been spending all weekend doing demolition on my kitchen. The previous owners half assed (or quarter assed) every damn thing in the house. But of course they did the counters right. Poured concrete, rebar fucking everywhere, anchored to the wall. 10ft counter and its taking me 2 days
